During much of this period, Dr. Smith stayed in contact with Dr. C. Clayton Brown, a Professor of History at Texas Christian University. Brown is the author of the standard history of the Rural Electrification Administration Electricity for Rural America: The Fight for the REA. Subsequently, in November, 2004, Smith interviewed Dr. Brown on this subject. The Digital Production Group videotaped this interview at their facilities on the California State University, Fresno campus. Dr. Brown’s insightful observations on the early history of rural electrification can be found in Power for the Parkinsons and on this web site. Dr. Brown, a widely published scholar who is currently working on a history of the cotton industry, also prepared a scholarly essay on the REA for this web site.
